New video: Unique Choice is officially back!

Woohoo, I ordered my UC top just before it went official! #1337cR3W  I am now terrified to go look at the new tops for fear of buyer's remorse!

The UX is way better than the old way. I dig it!

In the configurator there are few options to get 3A and 5A flamed and quilted maple tops, then it is mentioned quilt and flamed DL top, so my understanding was they were still offering tops without veneers.

Also, it is not clear to me if it is possible to order a sandwiched body with some back wood and a top of plain maple, for instance to get a gold top or solid finish. Of course IMO Warmoth makes great carved top bodies, a pity they don´t have them in the showroom and it would take 6 months to get one built from scratch.

Not, to the best of my knowledge, as standard offerings apart from DL tops.

For anything such as a plain maple gold top, you would have to contact Warmoth sales to see what possibilities there may be. Carved tops used to appear in the showroom regularly. But less frequently of late.

Offering 3A and 5A lams in the builders was a stop-gap solution until Unique Choice was reintroduced. Now that it has been those options will likely disappear soon.

I see what you're saying about those labels being confusing on carved top guitars. Creating all the new options values and accompanying rules to make the verbiage correct across all models would have a been a lot of work, so that was a concession we made since we knew those options were temporary.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "sandwhiched body" here, but if you're asking whether you can get a plain maple carved top to put a solid color on, the answer is yes. Give us a call and we can arrange that. It will be a DL top, so a sub lam of plain maple, and a top lam also of plain maple.

Carved tops are not our biggest sellers, so they are the last in priority for the showcase.

Though having the staff pick it, was sort of like Christmas! It worked for me on a bird's eye neck ... You don't know what is in the box. Unique choice, however, resolves the customer's second guessing.

I perfectly understand it might take time to update the configurator, no issue. For Sandwich I meant a body with two layers of different wood (no lamination).

Finally, I understand carved tops are expensive but on the other side Warmoth is the only one who offers these products, everybody can cut a Strat body and neck these days...if I need to spend $200 of shipping plus customs I want something that cannot be found locally.

I definitely hear what you are saying about Carved Tops. We used to do the typical one-piece carved tops a la Les Paul, but we shifted to Double Lam Tops about 8 or 10 years ago. We did it after much thought, and for what we felt were good reasons, the two main ones being:
  1. Cost. People perceive parts differently than complete guitars, and generally are not willing to pay the same price for a stand-alone part as they would for the exact same part as a component of a fully-built guitar. For example, how much do you figure the cost of the body is on a US-made PRS Custom 24? Current price on those is over $4,000 IIRC, but let's just say 4k to make the math easy. And let's say the body accounts for just 1/3 of that cost (I bet it's more, but let's just say 1/3). That is $1,333. If we put our US-made Carved Top body in the showcase at that price it would likely sit for a long while because people thought it was too expensive. So we have to find a way to offer our US-made standalone parts at price people will tolerate.
  2. The ability to use our standard 1/8" lam tops on Carved Top bodies. Because of this compatibility you can now browse through the Unique Choice section, pick any top, and put it on any eligible body, flat or carved top.
Hope that all makes sense!

Is unique choice available in the builder for all bodies? I was looking at the 72 Thinline, and not only was Unique Choice not an option, no flamed/quilted tops were an option. I also built a rear routed JM body with a UC top and wasn't able to select any finish options aside from DIY, Clear and no finish. Are parts of the configurator still pending?

Unique choice is not available for Thinlines, or T Bass bodies, as they required a 1/4" thick laminate top instead of the 1/8" tops that are on Unique Choice.

I wonder if it's just the JM builder with issues? I can't get passed this point (I think the binding section isn't loading):

I had the same issue with the Soloist body builder, emailed the webmaster (via website) and it was fixed pretty quickly!
