New Strat, Thinking about Pickups

That being said, take a look at Erik Zs Warmoth Strat. He has it up on his website, just google it. He did a pretty good setup with a ton of switching options. Really versatile. Too much for me, but it might be just the ticket for you.

That's awesome, that's right up my alley. I was already thinking about doing something like that. I probably won't worry about being able to put the humbuckers in parallel - don't know how much use I'd have for that. So I might just do push/push pots on the tone/volume (I'm not planning on putting in two tones) and H-S-H with standard Strat wiring. Though I'm toying with the idea of having the middle switch position combine single coils from the bridge and neck, rather than using the middle on its own. I think that'd require a superswitch though.

Though I seem to have started an EMG vs. non-EMG flamewar , I'm still leaning towards a Lil Screamin Demon, Area 67, and Cool Rails for B-M-N, with switches for splitting the Demon and Cool Rails.

I'll recommend what I always do. Bare Knuckle Pickups for boutique, three single coils. The Mother's Milk set is really nice. For non boutique, I still say three vintage style low output single coils. Your choice manufacturer. You can do pretty much anything with them.

Nothing wrong with Bare Knuckles, but the idea that Duncan and Dimarzio don't know how to make a pickup as good as they do, is simply ludicrous. Besides, what the hell kind of name is "Mothers Milk" for a pickup. That alone is a turn-off for Me. :evil4:

Commence rambling!

I believe he named it after what he based it on, which I would guess is Frusciante's tone on Mother's Milk. Duncan and Dimarzio are great. The Green Manalishi (Surf green LP), as doug named it, had Dimarzios and SDs before those. Then I got rid of it. Great pickups, but for a single coil I prefer a 100% vintage style. No RW/RP (I've gone mad!) no hum cancelling none of that jazz. Then again, I can manage the buzz now so I guess I'm used to it. I still get buzz, sure...

Back on point, Dimarzio and Duncan have some great options. One of my favorite pickups (and I loath humbuckers. They don't do it for me) is a Pearly Gates. I'd recommend you get a strat and pop in some of Mother's Milk.... the pickups. End rambling!

Yeah, that was just an ornery little jab I was taking...all in good fun, of course.

Not a real flame-war. None of my comments are meant as personal attacks.

I really don't get why you want to coil split a Lil Screamin Demon and a Cool Rails. You'll lose power, and they should have enough single-coil attack in normal mode anyway.

Hm. Probably true. Maybe I should put something hotter in there that I can split in order to get the standard strat sound? I just like having a lot of options - Ideally, I'd like to be able to have straight up classic strat sounds in one configuration, and then by using switches under the pots, have some other sounds available too - like a typical humbucker sound. I guess I haven't completely decided what I want for the "other sounds," so that's probably why I'm still on the fence about what I want.
