Squier is coming out later in the year with a Affinity Series™ Stratocaster® Junior HSS. It looks to be about 7/8 scale with a 24" neck, for $250. I'd been thinking about putting together a 7/8 Warmoth Strat for my 8 year old grandson for a while now, but really can't afford it. He has no background in guitars yet and I live in a different state so I don't know if he'll even develop an interest. Fender has a 3/4 Strat " Mini" Strat (with a 22.5" scale) also, but I think if my grandson takes to playing, this Junior will last a lot longer as a viable instrument. I do kind of wish it was a hardtail, but the trem cam be blocked for a while so tuning won't be a problem.

That sounds like a great idea. And if he does not want to get into it, he'll be able to sell it. Just as long as he does not buy video games with the money :)

if it's 24" scale you can always upgrade that neck with something hot n spicy from the Big W, so it seems like a great entry level purchase
