Got my new Rosewood neck a day or so ago...

Supposed to be Indian Rosewood neck meat as well as fingerboard, but the fingerboard seems to be a dramatically different hunk of wood. I've never seen Rosewood this smooth or pretty. It's like a very dark Pau Ferro or something. I'm not complaining, I'm quite pleased. Also, gold frets.

I applaud your sterling taste in guitar bits, KG.  Excellent.  What kinda nut are you planning to affix?

The nut will be a black TUSQ part. It'll be a while before that goes on, as the body that's slated for won't be refinished until the spring. Unless, of course, I come across another body that neck will look good on. May not be able to restrain myself <grin>

Well, it sat in The Showcase for weeks, just rotting. As beautiful as it is, I was afraid to order it because I thought the fingerboard would be more coarse than I care for. But, I finally couldn't stand it anymore and pulled the trigger. Glad I did. If I didn't know any better, I'd say that 'board is Brazilian. I mean, it's really dense like Ebony or Kingwood.

And I agree KG(ala bagman67), it does look very much like pau more than RW..

Either way, it's beautiful.  I'd love to see the body this is going on.

Body isn't anything to look at right now. But, it's an old unused Warmoth PRS-style VIP with a quilted Maple top over a Mahogany base. Guy I bought it from tried to do a home finishing job on it and had somewhat less than stellar results.

Anyway, the plan is to do a nice transparent blue treatment, but I've been known to change my mind. I like a darker blue, and it would be a shame to diminish that quilting. So, maybe a honey burst? I don't know. Since the neck has gold frets on it, that may make more sense.

Oh, I thought it was yours. Never mind. I'll make my own. Only, mine's not gonna have birds on the neck.

Nice Cagey  :icon_thumright:
I got a indian rosewood / indian rosewood ... on my red quilt strat.
Mines heaps darker than yours, but these are pretty smooth like Pau-Ferro.

The top sure looks pau-ferro on yours, must be a light indian rosewood.
Got a pic of the back of it ?

No pic of the back, at least not anything revealing. Too far away. But, it looks like typical Indian Rosewood.

Cagey, that's awesome.  Hopefully it gets played enough!  I'm considering downsizing, myself, due to feeling guilty about guitars getting enough love.  Of course, I still have builds in the works...

Yeah, I think I may be reaching my limit as well. I wanna build more, but it doesn't make much sense. Problem is, I don't want to sell any I've got.

Cagey, Congrats on a B-U-T-ful Rosie.
I apologize for any drool that I may have gotten on it. I looked and looked at that one but couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger as it was just too much like the neck I bought in August. Only an inch shorter. And I didn't want to start a thing where all of my guitars were Warmoth headed rosewoods.Even though they are great necks!
I love mine and I'm sure you will  enjoy  your's too.
Again my congratulations on a great score.
:rock-on:

Gorgeous.

That's a 24.75 scale neck correct? I'm not sure about the exact definition of short scale in this context. Like I could even think about another project. :binkybaby:

Yes, it's 24.75"

It's going on a hardtail body, so I wanted to make it tad slinkier.

It's kind of odd when you look around and realize that if you played each instrument you owned for a half-hour a day. you'd run out of time way before instruments. Or that you've done 90% of your practicing on just two, the last few months. At least I know what this next one HAS to have: scalloped board, SS frets, boatneck, Lawrence L500... and straight string pull, 24 frets, two-point or better whammy (or none at all). And the only way to do it involves a lot more work than just screwing bits together.
