Evenin' folks,
I'm a new poster here, but not new to guitar building. I used to build back in the '80's when I was a teen. The reason I am here is because I own a small company the develops high performance finishes and coatings for the outdoors industry. My former company Lamar Fishing Products developed several coatings and adhesives for the fishing rod industry, that are still in use today. If you're interested you can google ThreadMaster finish, ChromaSeal Color Preserver, or Ultimate Epoxy Adhesive. I started a new company this year to focus on adhesives for the custom knife industry. During the process of developing some adhesives which you can view at www.bladebond.com, the chemical engineer I contract with sent me some samples of an oil based modified urethane blend...thinking it may work good for gunstocks (which it should be GREAT for that). I IMMEDIATELY thought of the instrument market as well. I know a lot of guys use Tru-Oil, and honestly I think my stuff is much easier to use. I say this after fooling around with Tru-Oil for the last 20 years...LOL.
Anyway, what I am wanting to know is if any of you guys would be interested in trying a sample of this finish to see if it is worth pursuing as a guitar finish. The 2oz. sample will be totally free, all I ask in return is that you pay $5.00 for the priority mail shipping, and you TOTALLY COMMIT to giving me honest and detailed feedback about the product. The current formula I have in stock is a satin finish, but we can make a gloss version as well.

Anyone interested can email me at:

Best Regards,

Welcome aboard.

We are visual mutants.  I think the best thing you could do to break into this market would be to provide pictures of your products on the common wood species we tend to finish.  When you ask someone to try an experimental product on a custom neck or body that costs upwards of $600 on average, the risk vs reward ratio is too great.

Why don't you grab some small wood samples from a local HW store in Maple, Walnut, Mahogany, and Ash and give these a whirl?  Post up pics highlighting process and results.
I'm eager to learn more about your formulation.

Cheers!

Agreed, I want to see it in action before I throw any sort of consideration at it.

Just did some digging.  It looks like his products are adhesives, not finishes.

Mod, please move (or delete!) per, "...if you want to have a friendly chat about your product/service then General Discussion is fine, but if you want to sell it, use the For Sale section."

I think this is a drive-by posting, actually.  Spam, perhaps.
