Hey Gang,

I got a little bored with the white paint job on my Warmoth Flying V body and neck, and wanted to give it something more lively. In the process of cleaning the body, I began to like the look of the mahogany before it dried and have been thinking about giving it a clear coat. When I got the neck stripped down, I was surprised to find a maple neck. (It was only a surprise because I couldn't remember exactly what I ordered in 2000. Yes, my V has its sweet sixteen birthday this month, lol.) If I want to match the wood of the neck to the body, I will need to order a new one, but Warmoth discontinued the V neck. I suppose I might be able to custom order one. I really don't want to order a paddle to shape myself. A couple of the necks have caught my eye, and I was wondering which one you guys would choose.

I had started a thread on the repaint project, but photo-puke-bucket crashed my browser and I lost everything. I'll try it again sometime tomorrow. Here's a picture of the guitar after getting a coat of Howard Feed and Wax. You can get the idea of why I'm torn between a repaint and a clear coat.

If it were either V-R or V-K I would say a Slapshot or Arcade. But just a normal V I reckon it would look awesome with the Mooncaster or Warmoth neck.

The most awesome neck by Warmoth isn't among your choices to vote from: the Warhead.
But of those listed I'll give the Warmoth-neck my vote.

For me it needs something pointy. Maybe an Arcade or a Nomad. A 3+3 Arrow would be just the ticket if it existed but from the listed choices the regular Arrow will have to do.

Ken Lawrence, hands down.

I don't think that there are any in the showcase right now, but I know that they have been custom ordered before.

From the existing necks my first choice would be the Vortex and then Warmoth. Unfortunately the Ken Lawrence headstock has never been a standard option so you have to rely on whatever specs they choose for the necks on the showcase.

If it was my guitar I would keep the original neck or order a paddle head and make (or have someone else make me) the Gibson V headstock. I would choose a solid/metallic color and I would fill the holes and use no neck plate for a cleaner look.

The Warmoth is the only answer. The V isn't pointy enough or curvy enough for anything else.

When I was enamored of the recently enough introduced Swtichback body I was looking at the "Warmoth" neck style. It seemed traditional enough yet interesting enough since there was not an option for an actually historically accurate headstock shape. You are lucky to have gotten an actual V from them back-in-the-day (as they say). The work on the body looks great.

Hey Gang,

Thanks for the input!!!

My top two choices were the Slapshot and Warmoth necks. What I really liked about the Slapshot neck was that the end of the head was rounded like on the body of the V. Also, I'm into hockey and the movie of the same name is on my  must watch list, lol. Sadly though, the Slapshot didn't have an option for mahogany wood in the custom neck builder. I patched together a couple combinations of necks with the V body.

Looking at the cost of a new neck and then at my wallet, I think I am going to tinker around with the original neck and keep these two in mind.

Dang, that IS basically zero pocket. My rubber string bass should be fine.

I meant the neck fitting with the body. I'm working on a really small body for my son's u-bass (ukulele bass - rubber string 21" scale). I ended up messing up the neck pocket a bit, and decided to fix it by routing away the entire treble side of the pocket.  So basically I have two sides and a floor and screws. The V though basically has only a heel, floor and four screws. I suspected that the heel/floor is all that really matters - the screws really are there to keep it from torquing off with handling.

The V neck "pocket" if you can call it that is pretty extreme. And to think I was worried about mine.

I really like the mock ups with the various necks. I see your point about the Slapshot. It looks great. You might consider roasted maple on a Slapshot order as it will look very much like mahogany in regards to an aesthetic. It will be brighter but you can always dial that back on your amp. Just a thought.

Well....I would sure like to vote for my favorite....but it won't be released for 16 more days.

Ask me again on April 1st.

What's this? More hints of things to come? At first hints about a new body a few days ago, and now this hint of a new neck. Nice, very nice! We like ...  :cool01:
Can't wait until April 1st.

I can neither confirm nor deny that a new body and neck will be announced on April 1st, and that a giveaway will also occur around the same time, and that this giveaway might have two grand prizes, and that these prizes might be this new body and neck.

A can also neither confirm nor deny that this body and neck may be designed to go together, but work equally well with other bodies and necks in the Warmoth lineup.

Neither confirm nor deny.

I dooooo hope that these neither confirmed or denied giveaways will be the new outside-of-Facebook-versions.

We have...ummm... explored :redflag: all our options, and I CAN confirm that giveaways in the future will be Facebook independent.
