New member-Planning VIP build

Hey guys, been looking/drooling around this forum for the last few weeks. I finally broke down and joined, you have all sucked me in.

I've been playing any instrument I can get my hands on for the past 12 years. Guitar wise I first had an Ibanez EX series and a Takamine acoustic. I'm ready for something much nicer, GAS is getting the best of me. I've always been interested in building a guitar and I think the significant other would be more tolerable money wise if it was a little bit here and there!

I've been thinking/planning/reading to get this build started for a while now and want to see what you all think, I am more than open to any suggestions as I have many aspects that are not in stone yet. I plan on piecing this together little by little so it may take me a while.

BODY
VIP
Hollow
Core wood: Mahagony
Top wood: Maple(I can't decide between flame or quilt)
Rear rout electronics
H-H pickup configuration but have no clue which ones I want
PRS recessed controls
Bridge-I really like the archtop style tailpieces such as the one on the Paul Languedoc Custom Archtop in the picture below but they are expensive pre-made and I haven't heard much about them in general(Stewmac has blanks that you can carve on your own but that seems like it would be an adventure on its own) I'm thinking either that or I would like a string through body bridge, I also like those for some reason.
I'm not sure about the output jack options or the contoured heel option.
I would like 2 F holes like both of the guitars pictured below.
I like the look of binding but I plan on finishing the guitar myself. how hard is it not to screw the binding up while you're finishing the body? I would like to do a finish where the wood grain shows up, from what I'm reading I should dye the wood. I really like the finish on the Paul Languedoc guitar but would like the grain to show through more on the top, but I do like how to back and top are two different colors.

NECK
I'm not sure what I want to do yet...I am thinking of either the Warmoth 3+3 neck or getting a Warmoth arrow head inline 6 tuner neck and shaping it myself, most likely with a little influence from the Paul Languedoc headstock.
I am pretty sure that I want to use mahogany neck wood with a rosewood fretboard as they do with the PRS guitars.

I haven't even started to really think a lot about hardware, as you see I already have enough questions and a lot to think about.

These are where I pretty much pulled all my inspiration/ideas/rambling from...

Thank you and I look forward to any help anyone can give me. :headbang1:

Hi there Dog and welcome! Sounds like a classic PRS/Gibson recipe with a hollow twist, so it's all good as far as I'm concerned. I'd consider an all rosewood neck - people here are constantly praising raw exotic wood necks and the sound would be pretty much identical to mahogany/rosewood. I don't think binding will be an issue if you're careful, but I'll let someone else be more definitive on that :)

Oh, and I'd pick flame maple any day!

Rosewood. Really. It feels awesome. Any time I touch a finished neck now I feel like I'm going to stick to it.

So, unfinished rosewood with a rosewood fretboard is the way to go? What's so different about it? I will definitely keep that in mind.

Playing on a naked neck is what's different about it. Swing by a GC and play a German-made Warwick bass. Even if you aren't a bassist, you'll be able to see quickly why the neck is special. Make sure you don't get a Chinese / Korean model as those use maple.

Knucklehead-I have played a Warwick Streamer before...I wasn't aware that's why the neck was so smooth to play...knowing this, rosewood/rosewood is a must now.

mgaut051-Good find. Thank you. I'm still pondering this...I would really like to make a guitar with a tailpiece, I think they look AWESOME. I never thought to check the "fleabay"!

Still pondering things in general. I never thought getting started with this/ordering a body would be so hard...so many life changed decisions about to happen here. HAH.

I'd love to see a Languedoc style build on here. I think someone modified a PRS SE of theirs and it looked pretty sharp.
