New member, low skills, need advice.

As Mayflysays, but if the neck is glued & put back is the shim a wedge shape & put back
in a different orientation? Creating the fret out.
As line6man said why deepen a pocket to shim? Is the body a solid or does it have a laminate?
IF solid  the body could have the top skimmed 1-2 mm (max) body would need edge profiling &  refinishing,  pickguards should fit without mods, it all depends how deep that pocket is now. You would still have the original body for sentimental reasons.

Jumble, that's what we did, but it didn't completely fix it.

Thanks for all the advice.  My luthier friend (the second guy, who builds acoustics) is going to take the neck and see if he can find the problem and repair it.  I'd not, we'll trim off the overhang, and by then I wil have either decided to live with it, or to sell it it as a 21-fret neck and replace it with a new Wamoth neck build to the same specs.

I may update the body at the same time, just moving the EMG X-series pickups and Callaham/GraphTech parts over to a new body.  There's one in the showcase right now I would love to have.

That's a bummer that you've had so many problems with this. Good luck getting it all worked out!

AutoBat, the SAX set is the best sounding Strat set I've ever heard.  They bring out everything the chambered body has going for it.  Before it's recent near-death experience, this guitar sounded like the hi-fi bastard son of a 335 and a Stratocaster.

Here's a pic of the guitar before I almost killed it.

Taking a poll:  if I ended up building a Zencaster II, with a new neck and body (and it's very tempting), I would likely sell the neck I have.

Whoever bought it would want to remove the headstock decal, but here's the question:

If you were in the market, would you rather buy the neck as is, with the potential problem to be fixed....

Or with the overhang and 22nd fret professional removed and the finish touched up?

Thanks again for everyone's help so far.
