Wow, cool! I like 'em all! (I would make the face of the radio amp a little more Steampunk) but I like everything I see here. Thanks!

I like where they were headed with that 3rd explorer looking thing, but I agree with you, looks like they need to smooth out the lines a bit, but it's not horrible. the first two guitars look cool

I like this Voyager prototype, specially the black. But it needed to be just a tad pointier... And the Fender headstock doesn't work on it, IMO

Carvin's new Legacy 3. Yowza. Can't wait to hear one of these in person. They're supposed to be in stock in the showroom here in San Diego in March.

It'd be interesting to figure out how much money Vai makes on guitar playing/royalties from recordings/etc. vs. product endorsements.  Wouldn't surprise me for a minute if Carvin and Ibanez are paying him a lot more than performances are.

Not that he's likely to disclose it, just idly speculating.

It's funny but I think the size, the change to a master volume section and the boost across all three channels (let alone making channel three a high-gain channel) all are more about serving Carvin's customers than serving Vai. The V3M got such rave reviews, and the Legacy was in need of an update, so it makes sense to me that they listened to what the customers were asking for and then took a prototype of that to SV to see if he approved. And I'd not be surprised to see ol' Steve along for the ride as long as the number of zeros on the paycheck was right. 'Oh yeah, make sure all the little cutouts and symbols spell VAI while you're at it...'

Not that there's anything wrong with that. Hell, I'd let them stamp my name on it if the price was right, and I'm sure that my price would involve a lot fewer zeros than SV's.  :laughing7:

Still want to hear one live, but I'm thinking this is what I'll be upgrading to in the near future.

Looking at the first of the three guitars, aside from the hidden pickups, are they using a new bridge design?  Normally when I see a modern two-screw fender bridge, it has the same general shape as the old six-screw vintage model. In all honesty, it really reminds me of Leo's advanced Dual-Fulcrum design that G&L uses.

I also think the Greta amp is cool looking, but when it comes to a left-field design to an amp, you gotta hand it to Frank Zappa's boy and his Wiggy amp:

I dunno if you can deem it steampunk or not--retro is one thing, but steampunk can only really look good when it's done right. Personally, the Wiggy has a level of cool that, well, the only way to explain its coolness is:
