Since Warmoth makes a stunning satin finish as well as their older exquisite glossy finishes I had this idea the other day when I saw an example of these two types of finishes combined. We've already seen fine examples of builds here with a satin black body and a glossy black pickguard (right, BigSteve?) and if I remember correctly the opposite as well - a glossy body with a satin pickguard.
But as I mentioned, I went shopping the other day (a CD) and got a small plastic bag to carry it in. When I looked at the bag I thought that this should be something that Warmoth should offer: a finish that combines glossy and satin on the same body.

Here's a blurry picture of the plastic bag that gave me the idea:

A black/black Buddy Guy finish, anyone?

Belay that talk, mister.

Printing digitally on a shopping bag is one thing. Masking and polishing urethane finish on a guitar body....totally different animal.

It would look cool though!

It sure would.
And if somebody could tame that animal I'm sure Warmoth could. :icon_thumright:

A guy on a Facebook group did one with gloss roses on a matt background. I couldn't find that, but I found this:

That's an interesting finish on that Odin, any idea how it was accomplished? I'm thinking that double spraying, with two different paints, would be a real PITA, but if you look closely at the gloss ring below the bridge, on the left side, it does look like it was masked off and some gloss got under the tape.  :icon_scratch:

I figure you spray the mat first, then apply various sized round stickers.  Then shoot the gloss.

Peel stickers, apply clear, level sand, buff, done.

Never tried it, but I suspect you'd have to shoot the gloss first, level/finish sand, buff and then mask and apply the matte. I wouldn't think you'd want to be finish sanding/buffing once the matte was on there, so it seems like it would have to come last.
