New Back Day

Well today was New Back Day.  Had a laminectomy at L4/5. Was scheduled for 35 minutes and ended up be close to 90 as I was told.  The Dr shared he had to shave a lot more bone off than he originally thought.

Back home, resting and in no pain. Drugs are mostly worn off.  We will see how I feel in the morning.  No live gigs for 2 weeks, then for the 2 weeks after that, I have to use a roadie as well as play sitted.

Congratulations. It sounds like things went really well for you. Follow the Dr's orders on recovery.  :icon_thumright:

Take it easy and wish you a speedy recovery. I had some emergency surgery just after Easter and I am still not fully up to speed.

I don't envy anyone that has to go under knife, especially with their back, but I am glad it worked out well for you.  Heal well.

I broke my back in 1989, vertical compression fracture at L3.  Was a carpenter at the time, building scaffolding at the Shell Oil refinery in Martinez, Ca.  A pipe fitter dropped a spud bar from a vessel 20 feet away & 130 ft up.  It ricocheted off of a pipe, hit me flat across the back & knocked me off of the scaffold that I was climbing, I rattled through 20 feet of scaffold framing then took a 12 foot freefall over an 18" pipe.  I was in physical therapy for 18 months, vocational rehab for another year, then 6 months of job hunting before I finally re-entered the work force near the end of 1991.  Fortunately, I have avoided surgery all of this time, and have developed a high tolerance for pain as I rarely, rarely will utilize pain killers after seeing what it did to my dad's liver.

Best of healing to you sir!

Glad to hear you came through this alright. I know surgery is no fun when you're the one lying on the table. Get well soon, brother!  :headbang:

Speedy recovery to you TBurst!

I had Anterior Cervical Fusion on C4/C5 in my neck that took 6 months or so to heal completely. It's a long process, but hopefully will be worth the hassel in the end. Good luck to you!

kay-rist.  Remind me to never complain about my back!

UPDATE, Back is still feeling good. Discomfort from surgery still, but still each day is at least an 80% of the improvement over what any day of the last 3 years have been. Got more new toys yesterday. I'll have to have the wife unbox them them and place them where I can get to them.

No Bending, lifting or twisting I am told.

New toys?

Upgraded my electric rig and got a Fractal Audio AXE-FX III and FC-12. My AXE-FX II and MFC 101 (with power and MIDI cable) will be sold as soon as I migrate/rebuild my patches into the III. Got a gig already lined up within 1.5 weeks (as soon as I can drive again). I want to bring the III.

Thank you and OUCH!

People ask me what happened to my back. It was a combination of things. A couple falls from 15ft, roll over accident, etc. Portaging a canoe was the hair that broke the camel's back. Then there was a load in/load out of the attic in 2016 that was the nail in the coffin for the old back.

A friend of mine had a bad back for a number of years. Couldn't twist, stoop or lift anything. Finally, he had surgery done to fuse a couple together and that was the end of his back pain. He now rides a Harley and is enjoying life. Hopefully this will do the same for you.

I've already got it:  an AX8. Been using it for a few years and slow to sell off the old rig.
