I finally got my basses finished! I started on one, saw another body that really appealed to me and bought another one! I took it to guitar shop in Atlanta and had them finish assembly and set-up. I love them both! i need to get some better lighting and a better camera, they look and play very well! I had flat wounds mounted on the brown one, but the B-string broke! there's less than one wind around the tuning peg! The B-string sounds weak, but considering how good the rest of the strings sound, I think the problem will be fixed by a new string. The other bass is a very deep blue. I dyed the ash body it using Angelus light blue leather dye and had a local guitar shop clear coat it. It came out a very deep blue. It's not the color I was aiming for, but I still love it!

Both very nice looking! I like the dark blue with the white guard, classic combo. Care to share any specs: Pups, wiring, woods? Tell us about their inner beauty....  :icon_thumright:

The blue one has a swamp ash body and a maple neck with a maple fingerboard and stainless steel frets. It was finished by Warmoth in a clear satin finish. The neck is very fast and smooth! It has Bartolini Deep tone pickups, an Audere preamp, Gotoh tuners and a stock Fender bridge.
The brown bass has an alder body and maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard and nickel frets. The pickups are Nordstrand humbuckers. It has a John East J Retro preamp and Kickass bridge. I finished the neck with Tru oil and the body was finished by warmoth in vintage tint.

What's next is what started this whole project of building basses from scratch, finishing the Carvin kit I purchased about 3 years ago. I got really excited and jumped without a real plan. I had no finishing experience whatsoever, so the end result when I finished the Solarez polyester hard coat was mixed. I had an interesting color with a lot of defects.
I purchased another body and started again with dye. The result was so hideous I had a local guitar shop paint it red.
I also purchased a Standard 5 poplar Jazz body from the Screaming deals and dyed it black. I ordered it routed for a Precision pickup without realizing the pickguard wouldn't match. I'm debating whether to scrap this or make yet another 5-string bass that will be different looking and require a custom pickguard.
Right now I'm mainly focused on playing what I've already got and set aside the idea of building something else for now.
