Need neck suggestions for this lot...

Hello all, in the middle of 2 builds at the moment, however in this particular one I need suggestions for a neck! I'm going for the 2 Seymour Duncan humbuckers in this blue sandblasted ash body. For the first time in my life I would like to try out a Baritone scale neck. Will be (attempting) to play the usual prog rock/downtuned metal stuff. Money not really a problem at the moment so please suggest lots of options for me!

Well, if money is no object, I'd be tempted to go with Wenge/Ebony. Get stainless steel frets and a white Corian nut to match a white pickguard. I'm assuming a white pickguard and chrome tuners, yes?

Whatever you go with, I'd carry that blue theme to the headstock.

I'm glad someone else has suggested Wenge! I think the ebony fretboard would be a great option too. Thinking in that case that maybe go a bit further and get Azurite dots markers to keep with the blue theme. Stainless frets I like. However I think white may be too much on the eyes for pickguard, maybe parchment cos it's a bit softer than white? Decisions.....

I'm onboard for the Ebony over Wenge, definitely stainless frets, but the dots? I'm a big fan of no inlay. You don't need them.

You wanted to do a baritone, right? That's a standard Strat neck scale at 25.5". I can see where the blue dots might look ok with your body, though.

All maple with the blue stone inlays would do it for me.  If you want to skip the inlays, I'd go ebony on wenge, as has been discussed before. Here's one I bought and had cut to a Warhead headstock.  I think the chocolatey brown would look good against that blue body.

Another +1 for maple on maple with the azurite dots.  But I also think ebony on maple would look great, as well.

Maple necks are a dime a dozen, and they need finishes. Go with something classy that can be played raw. And get SS frets, of course.

I wouldn't go for blue inlays. If they are not the same shade of blue as the body and pickups, then they will clash.

yes maple necks are abundant in the strat realm, but they don't have to have hard finishes on them. I have two with nothing more than some lemon oil rubbed on them a couple times a year, and they are good as the day i got them. Gun stock oil works too..Ernie Ball has been using all maple necks for years with no hard finishes on them..

But I do agree, the raw exotics are beyond anything else in comparison.. :guitarplayer2:

I'd go with ebony, no dots, only side markers, stainless steel frets black tusq nut.  Now the question is what kind of neck wood.  If you're going with how it will sounds mated to swamp ash, then I'd go with a maple neck in a gloss finish.  If you're going for looks and sound, then wenge.  Or how about this, all wenge and dye it black, yeah, yeah, yeah all wenge dyed black and a black pickguard.

That looks like the winner to me  :toothy10: I think the warranty would be void without a proper finish... although I always thought about burnishing the hell outta one and add some tru oil and see what happens.

I believe tru-oil does qualify as a "hard finish", if I remember...
