hey guys I need some info on a ES 137. what would the used value on a early 80s model be? in very good condition. I know somebody on here knows about these bad boys!

a guy wants to trade me his 137 for my PRS ce24 pictured below. from a collector/value standpoint is this a good trade?

Early 80s needs to be better defined, but right now, with the limited info we have, if you want an ES137, I would say go for it. CE24s are easy to come by.

The guy just said it was an early 80s model. im assuming this could be found out with a serial number.

I forgot to mention my CE is a 20th anniversary model. would this change anything. ?

I wouldn't do the swap, and I'm a Gibson guy. If he is the one who wants the trade, see if he'll let you borrow the Gibson for a week. Play the guitar for a week to see if it stands up to the PRS. I say a week, because you might love the guitar on the first day, but find out something about it that isn't obvious right away; chunky neck, weird buzz, whatever. If you can play both guitars you can directly compare them and see it the trade is right for you.

You can be pretty sure, if he wants to do the swap, he thinks the PRS is a better or more valuable instrument.

Also, I've learned the lesson of getting rid of a guitar only to regret it for years afterward.

Better the bird in hand ...

If you're not used to playing semi-hollows, it'll be a serious change of worldview for you to get into the Gibson.  I personally haven't really drunk the PRS kool aid (nor the Gibson), but the particular model you have is one I have played on several occasions and I don't see that as a solid trade for the Gibby.  All boils down to your preferences, though.  If you don't play the PRS, might as well get a new girl into the harem that you'll wanna get down with.
