LA as in Louisiana

or

LA as in Los Angeles

???

There is a big difference.  :toothy11:

Yeah, I'm wondering, as well.

If you mean Los Angeles, it might be a bit of a drive, but if you're near Huntington Beach, try 13th Street Guitars.

On the other hand, Hugh also charges $75 for setups, so you'll have to keep looking if you want a setup for cheaper.

Yeah, no kidding. Means they only buy cheap-ass tools, or they make decisions based on mindless rumor rather than fact. Either way, I wouldn't want those types touching my guitars.

+1 for 13th St.  Great crew.

I stand corrected. They will do stainless frets. Whoever took down my info when I dropped off the axe was a numbskull. The tech just called me to ask what exactly I wanted done because the guy didn't write anything down, and he told me that they definitely do stainless, no problem. He even noticed some pickup wiring problems that I wasn't able to solve myself. I'll let y'all know ow it plays when I get it back.

TrueTone did a fine job on my strat! Unfortunately, the frets did not need any dressing. I was a bit skeptical when they told me this over the phone, but now that I've played it, I agree. the action is VERY low with no buzzing. They smoothed over the fret ends quite nicely, though. The nut was the main thing . . . too high (I think the big W leaves some meat on the bone intentionally). TrueTone cut it down just right. Its now a marvelous neck that requires the lightest of touch. Open chords are clear and in tune, so their nut cutting and intonation are stellar. Couldn't be happier, and they even fixed my wiring mistakes.

The only frustration was their poor communication. I wasn't notified when the work was completed. I had to call and ask myself. But that's alright considering they did top-notch work.

May I add a footnote to the above discussion? I had Mikey at Truetone build my first Warmoth guitar for me, and it turned out great. I didn't experience any poor communication - just the opposite in fact. When it came time for my second Warmoth build Mikey wasn't available (and he's the guy at Truetone as of late who does the Warmoth builds). I ended up having David at Westwood Music Center build this one for me, and I am beyond happy with the quality of his work and the service I received. David might cost a little more than some other techs, but it is probably well worth it for the peace of mind - I highly recommend him and Westwood Music. It turned out that I didn't need fretwork, but if I had they do that, and they have a  PLEK machine if you want to spend a couple of bills making your guitar perfect.

HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend Eric Chaz at Eric's Guitar Shop in Van Nuys!

Eric and his crew have built me THREE beautiful Warmoth guitars and I had two finished by Pat Wilkins at Wilkins Guitars (also in Van Nuys)

Both shops do AMAZING work if you're in the San Fernando or Conejo/Simi Valleys or West Los Angeles....

Look up Anthony Bender on Facebook.
He used to be the tech for Parker Lundgren and Eddie Jackson of Queensryche, and worked at a local Guitar Center in the Seattle area before moving to Los Angeles last year.
