I solved it by buying a couple of shorter length stainless steel screws from a machine shop, rather than trying to cut / grind down the Warmoth ones. The No.8 screww lengths I bought are 1-1/4" and 1-1/2" I'm pretty sure I used 3 shorter ones and a long one to do a best fit scenario, and everything seems solid enough - with no fingerboard breakthrough! Hope this helps.
