Neck Finishing

Just ordered a tele body and neck from Warmoth. My first build, so I'm a bit nervous.

The neck is maple with maple fretboard. I'm considering using Tru Oil or Teak Oil or a Wudtone kit. Anyone have any experience with Wudtone?

BTW - is there a search engine for this forum?

Welcome to the boards.  Yes, there's a search function along the top tool bar.  You will want a hard finish on that maple, so I'd go with Tru Oil.  Wudtone can get you into all kinds of nice colors.

Welcome, JohnL. I just did a body with Wudtone. It's pretty easy to do and looks good. Their gloss isn't really glossy so expect to coat it with something else if you want that glossy wet look. I experimented with wipe-on poly and that did great on the sample. In the end though, I opted to not put that on because I like the look as is.

Frank is right, you have a lot of color choices. You can also mix some things into it for a slightly different look. I put white India ink in mine (see my avatar photo). If you do this, be sure to experiment with a dab of the stuff rather than mix the whole batch right off.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm doing the body with Minwax stain with a rub-on poly. Done some experimenting on ash. Seems pretty simple if you are careful. Can't decide on color. What I put on the neck may depend on body color.

Worded properly, it'll also do typical as well as incredibly obscure unit conversions. They take the general form of [quantity][unit of measure] in [unit of measure]. So, "36 inches in feet" will return "3", or "36 inches in meters" will return "0.9144 meters", and so on. But, you can get crazy with it, too. Ask  1 gasoline in BTU, or even furlongs per fortnight.
