If the neck has a finish on it you may need to litely sand the sides of the neck pocket on the body. Also, make sure you are attempting to install the neck by pushing it down into the neck pocket rather the sliding it in from the front of the pocket as there is a slight taper to the neck heel.
It's not being slide in, but pushed in from the top - seems to be more than just the finish preventing it from fitting though?
I'll check it out with my local luthier??
This is fairly common, and for good reason.
It's always better to have a tight neck pocket than a loose one.
This is considered to be part of a professional setup.
Lighly sanding the side walls of the neck pocket in single strokes towards the butt end of the pocket nearest the neck pickup will help you get to where you want it to be without removing TOO much wood.
