Neck Carve Question

All right, so I posted my LP and my Strat yesterday, and as stated the Strat is by far the more comfortable more playable guitar for me. The LP is the Standard Thin carve while the Strat is the 59 Roundback (I think I got mixed up in my head while building :icon_scratch:) Anyways, I really like the 59 Roundback. The thin is WAY too thin for me. I have giant hands, so it's like trying to play on one of those guitar christmas ornaments rather than a real neck. I do like the flatness of the back, but it's too thin. 59 roundback is still a little bit thin for my hands. I was thinking either the Fatback or the Boatneck. What are the differences between the two? Is the Boatneck flatter or rounder on the bottom, and how much bigger is it than the 59 Roundback? I've looked at the drawings on the Warmoth site, but drawings aren't as helpful as input from people who have played these neck carves. Thanks for any input. (By the way, are the Superwides worth it? Easier chording or anything like that?)

I have a 1 3/4" boatneck on #1, and I would never go backwards. I have pretty normal sized hands. I play with my thumb in the back of the neck most all the time, not up over the top. If you played a lot of notes with your thumb over the top (Hendrix's could reach the D string) the width might bother you. A high proportion of great guitarists have pretty big hands but they still play normal-sized necks - there has never been a big push toward 2" X 27" scale necks. I actually use a larger neck because I'm a firm believer that that's where a lot of inherent tone lives. I had USA Custom build me what amounts to a slightly sized-down boatneck for Gleamo, but that's a hollow aluminum "Tele-shaped" guitar with so many different things going on the normal rules don't apply.... I do wish Warmoth would offer like a .880" or .900" boatneck sometime because I like their truss rods better that USA Custom's. If you can get a 7/8-sized strat.... :icon_scratch:

I've always kept my thumb basically center of the neck, right across from my middle finger. When I get a neck for this new strat I'll get a boatneck. Thanks!

And I agree about tone. That's one reason I chose the 59 roundback. Thicker neck, more wood. More wood, more tone! Thanks Stub. Appreciate it.
