The mythology itself isn't anti-christian, more just "Pre-christian - for that area." Same with Jesus's conquering African mythology, American Indian mythology, Hawaiian and all the others - we White Anglo-Saxon Protestants have a real habit of trying to convert "the natives" with tea & crumpets, and if that didn't take real fast we'll switch to cannonballs and smallpox blankets.... especially if those darn natives were sitting on top of some nice juicy resources that God needs quick. And then we wonder why they don't welcome us with flowers. Substitute the words "free market capitalism" for "christianity" - hmmm. (?) :icon_scratch:
Yep, that's pretty much the gist of it...
I love some of the Black Metal bands like Behemoth, Immortal, and Emperor, but I don't really get down with that whole church-burning scene or the whole, "Defecate on the Book of Belief" thing that Deicide hung up on. Ya wanna hate christianity, that's cool, but that whole "War against Christ" thing is just lame.
I'm Atheist, so I couldn't care less what a religious stance a band chooses to take, but I'm not going to listen to a band who continuously dumps on one religion or another, or tries to convert me (one way or the other...) through their music, or at their live shows.
FWIW, if one of these bands are into animal sacrifices, sending messages I'm gonna burn in Hell if I don't convert to christianity, or other sorts of garbage, it doesn't matter how good I think their music is, because I will refuse to have anything to do with that. There's no way I'm going to support those bands by purchasing their cds or listening to their music.
