After 2 years wondering, I finally got to order a scalloped neck for my strat  :headbanging:

The question though is: has it been finished at all?
I ordered "clear satin", but it looks too "clear" to me... the neck feels very smooth, but not as smooth as any other finished neck that I have (I have two other necks with satin finish, and both although slick, are much "glossier").

In the first pic, I put my current Fender neck for comparison

Warmoth's satin finish necks look/feel very much like fine-sanded raw wood. Even they have trouble telling whether the thing's been finished or not, so they put a little colored dot sticker on the neck heel. Your first pic shows an orange dot, so it's finished.

The orange dot on the heel indicates that there is a finish.  If it is finished then it should not peel off and the edges of it should reveal there is finish going over it.

It looks also when you look at the tuner holes that there is a difference in look due to finish. It probably will over time appear shinier.

Edit, I see Cagey, just posted essentially the same thing.

If you look up insomnia in the dictionary, you'll see a picture of me  :laughing7:

You're gonna love it, I'm sure. Warmoth is using a different satin finish these days that's very durable and doesn't shine up like traditional satin finishes do. That should feel the way it does now for quite some time.

Excuse the necro post, but I believe Warmoth still uses the old satin nitro finish on necks, as they've stated that the new poly satin finish on bodies is too expensive to be used on necks.

I hadn't heard that, so I called to ask. According to Warmoth, it's your choice. If you order a satin body and neck and want the neck to match, they'll do it. If you just order a neck, you have to ask for the "new" (poly) satin finish. There may be an upcharge for colors, but there isn't for clear. If you just order a satin finish neck from the builder without talking to anyone, you'll get satin nitro.

Good to know!

I have Warmoth's satin finish on two necks and it, in my opinion, is my favorite satin finish. I say that having had another neck sprayed with nitro by someone and then working to get it as smooth as Warmoth's.

this is one thing I have never played.  Its on my list with a fanned-fret/multi-scale guitar.
