I recently realized that this is actually my 1st all Warmoth guitar build. So far, I have assembed 3 guitars with W necks & someone elses body and my strat which is a W body with anothers neck.

So this is going to be my first Warmoth guitar! Body, neck and most of the parts from them.

The good part is that most of the parts are here!

So I'm bringing this thread;
http://www.unofficialwarmoth.com/index.php?topic=19897.msg293733#msg293733
and this one;
http://www.unofficialwarmoth.com/index.php?topic=21228.msg314098#msg314098
together in WIP.
It is time to turn the piles into smiles :icon_smile: :blob7: :hello2: :icon_smile:

Holy crap.  That's gonna be nice, you'll love that canary neck.  I love some of these brown-to-clear bursts, especially the ones where the wood is naturally a little on the warm colored side to begin with.  What pups you putting in?

That's going to be a killer-looking guitar, man. Keep the pics comin'!

Monday morning curve ball.
I need to make a trip to the hardware store this morning, so my neighbor gets robbed at 4 a.m. and I am the only one who saw the crooks. The cops were here at 4:30 & said they'd be back later for a statement.
So I'm stuck until probably after noon. :dontknow:

Hannah, Thank you. I think I'm going to like the canary, I had planned Pau Ferro, but this was setting in the showcase for a week and I succumbed to it's allure.  :icon_biggrin:
Pups will be SD 59n & Fender CS Texas Special bridge, at least to start. Eventually another set of Roadhouse but not sure what yet. So I went with 2 I have on hand. Both are old favorites & warm to my ear.

SlartiBartfast, Thanks for the kind words. Some say pretty doesn't improve the sound but I have high hopes for this one. The 1st project sorta snafued this morning, but with luck I will be back on track by end of day.
If it works out I'll post picks tomorrow. (probably even more pics. if it doesn't work)

That sucks about the robbery.  Anything with police involvement can tie you up for a long time, plus that's pretty scary.

A word about the pickups - TroubledTreble's site says he's developing a new humbucker that will be vintagey, but with the Roadhouse clarity and other attributes we have come to love: http://roadhousepickups.com/RH_Main.html

I sent him a message the other day - I'm getting a set when they're ready.

So here I come again, sorry for the lapse, I got off on tangents again.

Short story 1 is I had a trade offer of a set of Bareknuckle Tele pickups for an LP I have. After a week of smoke & mirrors I still haven’t seen the pups so I’m sticking to the original plan. SD 59n/Fender Texas Special bridge. Probably won’t last but it will give me a reference point as I have used this set in several guitars and know what I expect them to sound like.

Story #2. About the only thing I don’t like about my Warmoth Strat is the way the string ferrule holes are cut in the back of the body. The holes are about three times as deep as the string ferrule is long. So when I change strings it can be a real PIA getting the strings to come out of that little 1/8th” hole in the bridge.

So with this build I decided to put spacers in that would hopefully eliminate the problem. I didn’t figure it would be any big deal, so I hadn’t really done much research into what I would use. It turned out to be pretty easy. Only took me about two hours to make up six good inserts. It was the week of “research” and failures that surprised me. It took me two days and 4 feet of 5/16th dowel to prove that I can’t end drill hardwood dowel with a hand drill. Then a couple of days driving all over town proving that no one stocks nylon spacers in 5/16. Next I learned that wooden beads are easy to find, but not always center drilled in the center.
Enough of that. There were a couple of other bad ideas that didn’t work that I won’t bore you with.

Picture #1 pretty much tells the story of this tele. You can see the ferrules and the inserts about to go in. On the right, the depth mike shows the problem. The holes in the body are bored 5/16ths x about 8/10ths, while the ferrule inserts are only about 3/10ths. So I end up with about ½” space where the hole goes from 1/8 to 5/16 then back to 1/8. This can be a real pickle. So I am hoping these spacer’s help. Now that I know how, they are pretty easy to do.

Picture #2 shows the ferrules installed. Doesn’t seem any different after all the fuss I went to get them in.

Picture #3 shows my Milwaukee lathe and precision cutting tools. There’s a ½” wooden spool from Lowes ready for turning in the chuck. You can see more of the spools in the foreground.

So the truth is, it was a lot of fiddling around for not much show. I hope it will pay dividends in the long run though.

Well on to the next step. Tuners & bridge ect. Still second guessing my wiring so may be a bit.

Thanks for hanging in.
