My First Build - Quilted Tele

I posted my tele in the Out of the Box when I got it. This will start my in-progress post. The actual color is more turquoise rather than the plain blue that shows.

That's very handsome.  What are you using for dye?

Thanks. The dye is Turquoise Blue Transfast. It's a water soluble powder. I mixed this batch up fairly dark. My next move is to sand back and then apply a much less saturated coat. I'm guessing that will help add even more dimension to the quilt.

Thanks for the comments. The look was so good after the first dye that I was just about ready to say - done! But...I'm going to follow my plan - I'm currently sanding back and will then use a more dilute mixture of the turquoise dye to get the finished color. I'm shooting for the darker dye with the lighter dye (all the same color) resulting in a deep, 3D appearance. I'll post another picture when I've finished the sand back.

Still tip-toeing along with my Tele build. I've recently completed the color and am ready to start the nitro treatments. The masked binding was a challenge, and while it isn't perfect, I'm fairly satisfied.

The top is a water based dye. First coat was mixed dark and then sanded back, second coat was much lighter. The contrast is quite good. The alder back is stained Golden Pecan with Min-Wax. Three coats gave the desired saturation.

It's a bit on the cool side here in Michigan right now, but I do have a room inside where I can apply the shine.

Mmm. Interesting place to be during most winters, I imagine. Between Grand Rapids and Kalamzoo, I lived on the west side for about 13 years. Lake Michigan can be a lotta fun in a lotta different ways, not all of them good <grin>
