My car ran over my bass....

Not literally, but I had a blow out on the way to work, and ultimately had to replace all 4 tires & get some other work done.  The cost?  A little less than half the total cost of the bass* I'd put together in my head.  Discretionary spending just got shrunk, time scale on the build pushed back til probably after Christmas.  :(

Argh.  Argh, I say!  Yea verily and a third time: argh.

* Actually there's 3 different plans I'm waffling over, but all have roughly the same total price tag.

Some days, I regret not being able to drive and have all the joys of automobile ownership. Most days, not so much. It would be easier to take if there was a titty bar within walking distance, but that would mean I was in a less-than-desirable neighborhood, so I'll count my blessings.

Hehe! Yeah. Nice places.

I got spoiled living in Canada for a while - they know how to do titty bars. But, that was a long time ago in a different life.

I'm glad I work from home!

Hang in there , in time your new bass will be a reality , in the interim you can plan all the more details

We have a car that belonged to a deceased family member, which was gifted to us and it sucks. I'd never buy a car this expensive, and if you cant't sell it, it isn't yours. Not to mention since it'ts a Caddy, and now 6 years old, it's liable to develop coolant or lubricant incontinence any day now. Tires are huge and different front to back, so they can't be rotated, and even routine stuff like air filters and dipsticks are hidden. We had to replace four tires at once on it a couple years ago, then picked up a nail close to the sidewall in a couple months.

I'm used to buying itres on compact cars, oh boy that was an ouchie.

Sorry to hear that!! I know the feeling!!!

Earlier this year, My A/C ran over my warmoth... and just before that, my newborn daughter had already run over another one!

Right now, full time day care and after school care both run over my guitars every month!

ahh, that explains why you are sitting on your porch all day long, yelling at the neighborhood kids!

No kids in this sub. We're all retired and own guns with CCW permits.

Interesting phenomenon:  I'm nobody's idea of a firearms enthusiast (last fired a weapon for my final qualification while in the army, 1989) but I came into possession of several pistols when my father-in-law died last year.  I went to a gun shop to buy trigger locks for them and the thing that struck me was how very, very polite and formal everyone's interaction with each other was.  I don't know whether this is a gun shop norm, or if was just this particular shop.  But it was interesting.

I've been in a number of gun shops, and that's pretty much the norm. Everybody's friendly, calm and respectful. It's like an insider's club where even the insiders don't know who the insiders are, but appreciate their existence. Kinda like bikers - you don't need to be wearing club colors; you see another biker on the road, you wave. It's a big insider's club where the members all know "we get it, and nobody else does".

I'd question trigger locks on the guns, though. A very large school of thought says if you're going to use those, or lock up the gun, or keep your ammo separate from the gun, you may as well sell the thing because it's not going to do you any good to have it when the time comes you need it. Better to just get rid of it, and leave everybody to the tender ministrations of whatever psycho shows up. When you're dealing with home invasion or a similar attack, there are no rules and nobody's gonna give you time to prepare. It's not a fair game. You have to be ahead from the start, or you've already lost.

I know you have small children in the house and are justifiably concerned for them, but the safest thing to do is train them, not disable your defenses.

We need to go through the noisiness of ATF paperwork to document the transfer of the guns from my father in law to me, and then we're selling them.  It's been a busy year, so I figured I might as well secure the weapons in the meantime.

I'm on vacation right now, and my vacation may have run over a Grath aluminum body.  It'll take a few months to get my mad money/disposable income/gig fund back up.  Good thing he needs a little time to finish some existing orders.

The rabbit trails this thread went down are pretty hilarious.

I still won't be building a new bass anytime soon, but I have been laughing at y'alls absurdities.  :icon_thumright:

I can't really complain. 8 builds since 2009.

If I had gone Warmoth on my very first guitar and kept that build rate I would have owned more than 64 Warmoths by now.

I'd wager the ATF would spend months just trying to find all the forms, as they're used so rarely. But, you live in CA so there's probably a stadium's worth of assorted dingbats just peeing their pants in anticipation of your doing something wrong on that front. If it was me and I had invincible superpowers that precluded my need for weaponry, I'd just fire-sale 'em to my friends and call it a love story. If they're ever used for anything nefarious, they'll only be traced back to a dead guy, not you, assuming they bother at all.

Sorry to hear that

But  ...... about time your shortened your name to ... ihnpts  :icon_thumright:
