musicman necks

i searched around a little but didn't really find a direct answer to this: how impossible is it to shoehorn a warmoth neck onto a musicman (stingray)? having realized that the warmoth guitar neck i just received last week is by far the nicest guitar neck i have ever seen, i'm dreaming of a wenge/ebony neck for my bass. i wouldn't be doing any modifications myself - there's a really great shop i go to, and they can get pretty creative in terms of custom mods/fabrication. still, what am i looking at to make this work, or is the concensus that it's more trouble than it's worth?

Nothing is impossible, but it won't be a direct replacement.  I know nothing of Musicman's neck pocket specs, but I know they're different than Fender's, as is the neck plate and bolt pattern.  Though the same scale, each company's neck is a different length.  The Stingray is 21 frets with no overhang, while the Fender neck is 20 frets with no overhang or 21 with overhang.  That is enough to know the neck won't butt up to the body unless the bridge is moved.

Oddly enough I had an EBMM Stingray 5 when I got my Deluxe 5 neck (Bubinga/Wenge), and since I was looking to sell the Stingray at the time I removed the neck to check the build date.  I compared the two necks and remember the scale was bang-on but the Deluxe 5 neck was wider all around (I also wanted a 1 7/8" neck vs. the Stingray's 1 3/4"), including at the heel.  There may be enough play with the intonation screws not to need to move the bridge, but it's not a certainty.  I do love the carve on Stingray bodies, so I appreciate what you're after, but yeah, as STDC said, you're potentially looking at relocating the bridge, and definitely looking at some routing to widen the neck pocket and the need to drill holes, as EBMM use a 6-hole neck mount.

why not sell the MM and do a build with warmoth parts all the way? I mean... I know I switched to fully custom guitars after I had a taste of with via warmoth.

i've considered it. problem is, i like everything about the musicman, and i know i could build a killer bass from warmoth, but i think i'd miss it :). plus, it's fairly new, so the money i'd lose by selling it would be really disappointing.
