Musiclander - why no love??

So, I cannot resist the urge to start a new build.something bright n' shiny - something with curves and interesting angles - something smaller mayhaps.  Honestly wish I had something that was along the lines of an Ibanez Saber or Parker Fly.  Those shapes demand a candy or bright finish like Neon Blue! 

There seems to be no love for the Musiclander here, but I've done some searching and have seen some pretty compelling color and neck combinations.  Anyone know why these guys get relegated to the short bus here? 

Wish Warmoth had some other carve tops or shapes to peruse.
 
i can only speak for myself on this. I'm more fond of the ones I've known through the years: Telecaster, Stratocaster and Les Paul. I guess that's because they're what I have had and/or had friends with them. I want to like the Jazzmaster but have a hard time with the asymmetrical butt. I may overcome that in time.

That said, the Musiclander is a good-looking instrument, more balanced looking than the Jazzmaster. It's also a Fender design and, as such, appeals to me. The short life of the Fender Musiclander peaks my interest. One of those with the Arrow headstock would look fairly authentic and very cool. I'd say your assessment of a candy color is right on. If W ever offers one with a chambered body, it just could be my next choice.  :icon_biggrin:
 
Love but no money. It's on the short list.  Barilander. Probably maple/maple but I could have my arm twisted into  some combination of Padauk/Pau Ferro/Ziricote.
 
Honestly not sure why more don't build the Musiclander, after all it's basically a strat with some bits missing. Kinda like the Floyd Rose model was just a Kramer with pretty much the same cutaway... :dontknow:

It's actually more like the much whined about J-bass-guitar that never existed. with bits whacked off like it was trying to avoid some cease and desist order.
 
More might sell if they could be done on the virtual builder. I followed a custom build down the list just to see the options. I don't think a pickguard is available for one, either, so you'd have to do it from scratch. I personally don't do guitars without them because after trashing a pickguard, you can clean it up with a new one. It also didn't have the option for a front control route.

I know the virtual builder is a great aid to see what you will or can get. If I were to order one, it would be with a phone call to discuss what would work and what options I'd want. It's hard to go for something when you can't tell what it will be like. Maybe the new website will have this capability.
 
True about the virtual builder.

I'd love a scaled down dinky body, as well - like something along the lines of the dinky bass. Even the gecko shape would be really cool, too.

I agree the warhead is the best match but I'd go with the arrow if I built one because that's what Fender used on the originals. That's a good excuse to go a little off the reservation on the styling.

I'm still pondering a Musiclander. Last I left off I was thinking about going with black gloss, white humbuckers (or maybe just one), and a roasted maple "Warmoth" neck with Pau Ferro on the front. Still trying to zero in on how the dimensions of the body would strike me. I can relate to the comment about shapes that have been familiar over the years resonating with us. For me I keep ending up realizing I need shapes I can either sit or stand with.  So, the Musiclander is a body I think merits some free thinking with regard to what neck style and pickup configuration might appeal to the individual. its still on my menu. 
 
I think they look pretty good, it's like a jazzmaster had sex with a strat and then had sex with Alembic and gave birth to the Musiclander.
