Mount to wood - a test

I have an alder strat body with a Dimarzio Super Distortion in the bridge mounted to the pickguard.  When I play loudly through my Vox AD50 it SQUEEEELS with microphonic feedback.  SOOO... i took off the guard and mounted it directly to the wood with foam under (I screwed it down hard so the foam is super compressed).  I put wood shims (really tight) in the "holes" and mounted the pickup to that.  Cut out almost ALL of the microphonic feedback.

Just an experiment that really convinced me that the springs and screws method is inferior to the direct mount.  As far as tone, my ears couldn't really detect a difference.

Anyway, take that for what it's worth!

could also mean that it wasnt properly wax potted. :dontknow: Ive never had this problem with any pickup. could also be that you are too close to the amp while you are playing.

my super distortion used to squeal like crazy. it's what has irrationally turned me off to Dimarzio pickups. :tard:

It was never a major problem - for some reason it was just this amp and just this setting, and I was close to it.  But wood mounting it (like on my other guitar) eliminated the problem.
