Did you really think a player with a technique and setup like SRV would want a Floyd?

Of course not. Judging by what he did use, I strongly suspect that even though better bridges than the Floyd became available, he would have ignored those as well. A lotta guys get used to something and won't change no matter what. Then, there are guys like SRV for whom gear isn't a big issue anyway. All they require is a guitar, and they leave the excuse-making to wannabes.

Whoa, whoa, whoa!  I know this is now a thread hijack, but Stevie was mostly definitely a gear head and very particular how his stuff was setup.  And, it may just be nostalgia, although we imagine him with a Strat, and one in particular, he played a multitude of stuff over the years.  Hardtails, trems, Fenders, Gibsons, single coils, humbuckers and bunch of custom stuff.  His amp collection was constantly evolving.

Then saying "he knew better than to use a Floyd" is pointless. It is likely that it was not something that would have appealed to him to begin with, so why would he be using such a bridge either way?
You're just looking for reasons to talk about your Floyd-hate.
