The 'Control Plate Stratocaster' was a recent (<10 years ago) Custom Shop creation, where they envisioned what a prototype Strat might have looked like if it had a Tele style metal plate.

No, it's an old picture.. '54 or '55 I think

Call up the Custom Shop and ask them. They made it.

It was a replica......... but it was a replica built in 1955!!!
The original was made by or for George Fullerton in '54
in '55 a fender employee used George's templates to built this one for himself.

the original... which was a bit fancier:

Yeah, page 80 of "Guitar Legends" by George Fullerton says something like "This is my 1954 Stratocaster. It's never been played. The grain is fancy. It's the first one to have a burst headstock." ...but, eh, I don't trust everything in that book. Then again, I'm skeptical of everything I read.

That guitar looks to me like it was made in the 70s or 80s at the earliest.

Yeah, a maple-capped Strat made in 1954? Nobody else ever saw it before? The way people go sniffing after the original suppliers of capacitors and such, I'm pretty sure that would've been way famous. Maybe George likes a good joke, Rev. Gibbons & EVH never lied either. :laughing3:

Oh noooooo!!!!

well, this is minimal coverage.. but the guitar looks like something that Max designed while drunk!!!!
