Meadowhawk in the House !!!!

As no one has mentioned it so far, those initial Warmoth M'Hawks, with the solid colours and quilt maple, are different to the body @Hagwood has. For example, they do not have a forearm contour or drop top, the solid colour parts of the top are lower than the quilt maple which is only where the shape is, and the solid colour has a burst over. A bit like the Musicman Armada's had albeit a different shape.
Ahh, I was wondering if that top was sculpted somehow, couldn't quite make it out in the pics. My plan to replicate that may not be very feasible then, but the masked edge with a darker and lighter dye might be cool. Of course it also might be stupid.......

@Hagwood you should go for the Pele Fade or Nebula Burst we did in a limted release a few years back. Those were absolutely killer.

Played around with some dye colors on some scrap maple, and man is it difficult to blend in the blue and purple to yellow and orange without making green. 😟

I may not be able to pull off what you’re killer painters did @aarontunes !! May need to learn how to airbrush, I’ve always wanted to anyway…..

Played around with some more dye colors and bursting and really liking the ‘Nebula Burst’ type theme. This is just a cut out from some scrap maple, so not all that comparable to what the quilted would look like, and not the best dye job, but close anyway. I have a few more ‘bodies’ cut out to practice on, maybe a little more purple ?

Pretty sure that’s what I’ll go with on the Meadowhawk, just have to decide on the back. It’s Alder so I was thinking just solid color paint on back and sides with maybe faux binding ? Any ideas out there ?

Looking good, I wonder if you should consider feathering the purple more to avoid the abrupt line?

For sure. That was kind of a fast job and the grain on that left side has some very straight patterns so doesn’t look as good as the right side.

And I have a few more to cut out….

That would be cool. Or if I end up more purple or blue on the edge like Aaron’s examples above, I could carry the same color over with the faux binding.
Yeah alder has red in it so you can easily carry down reds, oranges, and purples and still have it look good. Blues stains on alder start to get hard.

Ahhh, good point. I can’t decide if I like the blue edges like on the fade, or just go with purple. The blue might start to get too many colors, the yellow to orange/red to purple looks a little more like a sunset.

I'm seeing a solid purple-ish back wrapped around to the front with no "binding line". Just a smooth transition to the incredible nebula-style burst. I'm sure whatever you end up with, based on your previous work, will be pretty damned cool!

Thanks, I appreciate that ! That's a cool idea too, the binding might detract from the burst instead of just wrapping it around.

Decisions, Decisions.......
