Perhaps there is a reason why Warmoth doesn't offer matte and satin finishes on their bodies. I'm a little tired of the high gloss finish to be honest. Just look at how sleek and sexy these finishes are.
I think I've heard something about matte finishes not holding up well, and as a previous poster mentioned, the matte turns gloss in contact areas. Glossification of matte can be remedied with a little abrasion, so that shouldn't really matter. I've been seeing matte finishes more and more in guitar shops, most notably Gibson has started using them.
I have to admit, I liked the look, and have been wanting to do a matte seafoam green Jaguar for a while now....
That sounds sweet! I definitely want to do a matte, metallic grey soloist with natural binding in the near future. I guess I'll buy an unfinished body and have it professionally finished.
I have 3. However they aren't doing them anymore on non clear finishes anymoreas they gloss up and whatever they were using quadrupled in price....or that's what they told me.
I really like satin finishes on necks. The bodies are another story. Not saying they aren't nice looking, just not my preference. If I pay good money, I want a glassy smooth finish. I support the idea of giving a choice for that, though.
That's been my experience with the Gibson Gothics. Not just contact areas either - they're susceptible to scratches, oils, and spills. The tech would have to change dramatically before I bought another matte- or satin-painted guitar.
