how would it work with single coils and humbuckers?

any ideas on this?

for long i wanted the body of one wood only - but considering multiple tele bodies on the showcase having a swamp ash back with a maple top, i am starting to wonder ...

it will sound like a swamp ash body..
the top will have zero effect on tone.

Now, please note that the following WILL have a major effect on tone :

the number of coats of tru-oil used
the stain color
the type of sandpaper used

Not to mention switch tip material!  Only fossilized wooly mammoth penis is stiff enough.

My current project has two hums and a Tele bridge pickup.  It has a laminate Birdseye maple top with Hard Ash back instead of the thicker cap and Swamp Ash back.  But, like stated above, the top has a very small impact on the tone, even neglible.  It's for looks.  The body wood affects tone more, and the neck wood and thickness affects it the most.
