I don't often succumb to purdy alone, but Electrified: The Art of the Contemporary Electric Guitar by Robert Shaw is a fantastic coffee-table kind of book, but for some reason it's only about half the usual price of the same dreary old Gibson/Fender hagiography. Some of these luthiers I've heard of, but a lot not, there's a lot of people across the pond (YouRope) turning out terrifying guitars. It is impossible to read this without:

1) getting a lot of ideas about finishing;
2) realizing that being born a billionaire would've been very, very helpful.

I've got this through Maryland's stellar interlibrary loan program - it's from a library in Prescott, Arizona?!? But it's on the short "buy" list for next month. Malinoski's the BOMB, dude:

P.S. if you go to Peter Malinoski's site, the "How I make a neck" slide show is like, umm, how to MAKE A NECK.
