LSR Nut....worth it?

Greetings,

Starting to plan the next build, and it will have some kind of trem.  For the nut, I'm considering the LSR nut.  Is it the next best thing to a locking nut or just go with a TusqXL?  I understand the nut slot is cut a little different than a standard nut, but if it does indeed function as the next best thing to a locking nut, I'm ok with that.

Thanks!

For me the answer is no. Not because of cost, but because it's only offered in Nimitz Class width. Otherwise I'd love to try it, but I hate my baritone because it was only available in 1-11/16th.

It depends on what you want to do with the tremolo. As mentioned it needs a 1 11/16" nut width and the nut slot is widened to accommodate it.

For example the Jeff Beck strats come with an LSR and previously the older Wilkinson style. He is a well known tremolo user.

Wtf (what the foot)?

I think the lsr is pretty cool. I Call it the "LaSeR nut" lol. maybe I'll get one some day, I don't know if they work with my dank a$$ thick strings.

Locking tuners, LSR nut, and 2 point knife-edge fulcrum vibrato bridge (most modern vibrato bridges such as Wilkinson VS100, Floyd NFT, Schaller "Vintage Replacement, etc.) is the whip. Beats the snot out of a locking nut, and it'll stay in tune quite reliably.

Dawg an lsr will beat the S out of a Floyd even through hadron collider level #divebombs? I gotta get on this train

This was my assumption, but don't "know".  I've never been much of a trem user, but have an itch to make something "shredder'esque" and want a trem.  I've had Floyd's in the past, and yes they work well, but are a pain in the ass, with lots of einsey weinsey pieces to lose.  If there is a part to lose, I will lose it (for the gun folks here, I took down the fire control unit of a Sig P320.....wow, talk about lots of einsey weinsey parts to lose and break).  The plan is some flavor of 2pt trem, locking tuners and of course, the LSR.  I have no problem with 11/16" width and use .10's (although have been testing .09's a bit lately).

Is it correct to assume the Floyd NFT also has those einsey weinsey pieces to lose?  Those einsey weinsey pieces being the pieces that actually locks the string in, that so easily fall out when changing strings.

Yes an NFT has string blocks.

I am not sure why you would lose them but each to his own.

Actually, the unit I have experience with is the Ibanez Edge trem, not the Floyd.  I ASSumed that the design is the same.  At least on the Ibby unit, those string blocks will drop out of the trem unless they are pushed up against the string.  Maybe the Floyd is different?

Nah they still do. Solution: do'nt turn the guitar upside down when they're not screwed in place. BOOM

The LSR allows my Lockmeister equipped soloist to return to pitch remarkably well. Too bad they don’t have the fender version in 1-5/8
