LP headstock color options, and what happened to stainless frets ???

I was just going to place an order for a custom LP neck, but it gave me no option for the headstock color, which I want black like a typical G*bson.  24 3/4" mahogany neck, clear gloss back, bubinga fretboard.

And also there was no option for SS6100 frets, or any SS frets for that matter.  Did Warmoth stop selling SS frets ?!?!!!!??    :sad1: ???

you must have the binding option checked....no SS frets with a bound neck
Well that's just stupid!  Why not?  I've installed plenty of SS frets before, and they're no more or less difficult to cut, install, or shape than nickel frets with binding.

Also, what about the headstock color?

I didn't know the neck builders even HAD a colored headstock option.
What?  http://www.warmoth.com/Guitar/Necks/NeckFinish.aspx  ..it's right there under "Matching Neck and Body Colors".  But when I build the neck for my LP, it doesn't give me any option about the painted headstock.

i know ABOUT THE PAGE

I'm stating that I've never seen it on the builders themselves.

It has never been an option. This is mostly because, in most cases paint color can have a slight variance from one batch to the next. Basically if you want a neck headstock painted, or a neck color matched to a body it is best to call them or send an email. That way they can discuss any issues with you directly.

Well then install the stainless frets yourself then.  Sounds like you have the talent.

Yep, you can buy the SS fret wire from Warmoth on the website.  I've done it before and had a (good) luthier put it on a bound neck.  Turned out just fine.

Anything that doesn't show up on the builder is something you have to call them about.  There are plenty of options out there that never pop up in the builder, especially if you want to build from certain woods.

Yep, the builders are a work in progress. Everything will be there eventually but it takes time. But the good news is, there's someone working on it.  :icon_thumright:

Not stupid.

The issue is developing a process/tool that can quickly notch the tang for binding nicely so that the fret seats like we want it to. Sure, you can painstakingly file each fret, but that does not work in our production environment. Everything we offer must not only be production-efficient, but also withstand our warranty and reputation. We've tried a number of tools and even built a couple that didn't work out, so it's on our radar of good things to tackle but currently, this option is not high up on the priority list.

A black headstock face is not a body/headstock color matching issue.  I'm sure they can do that.  I wouldn't get all bent out of shape because it's not in the builder.  I've seen a few inconsistencies with things I know they offer vs. what the builder says.  There's even body options they don't have builders for.  Bass 6 and Jaguar Bass?  When in doubt, just call that 800 number.  If int., e-mail.
