LP Finish Help

I've got a new unfinished LP body (http://www.unofficialwarmoth.com/index.php?topic=19403.0) and would like to send it to Tonar for finishing. I've been leaning towards a natural look. However, instead of just clear coating it I'd like to set the flame off somehow. Would a black dye sanded back be what I'm looking for?

Its between that and a lemon burst I think. I'd like to have a nice neutral finish to let the body really speak for itself.

IMHO...Black and "natual" really would not go together.  Try a good brown or amber sandback.  Or brown with amber added after sandback...YOUR flame is amazing...

Have you talked to Tonar at all about it yet? He knows everything, and will make it look exactly like what you want.

In my opinion I think flamed maple needs a little color to be absolutely beautiful (and believe me, I am a totally naked wood kind of guy). I think I had that body, I would go with something like what DMRACO suggested.

Definitely a dye!  There are subtle colors and flat finishes that could make it pop but remain subdued. 

I'm glad too you're leaving the finish to a pro.  I was nervous when you ordered it unfinished.  I'm sure you could do a decent job, but decent isn't good enough for this and this ain't one you learn on.

"Decent" isn't what I think I'd do to this poor body if I tried myself haha

But its going to Tonar! He could probably set the thing in a chair and talk the flame out of the thing, so I think he'll do a great job with this one. Really excited! The worst part now will be waiting until next payday so I can ship it off :icon_biggrin:
