low cost 6 string bridge?

6 string bass? 6 string guitar? tremolo? hartail? We'd like to help you but your not giving us much to work with here.

Llama Llama recently showed us his brand new 6 string Gecko neck but I agree. A bit more info would have helped. :)

Anyway, I'd say the Takeuchi bridges that Warmoth sells aren't expensive at all. $70,- for a 6 string bridge is pretty good and while I've never had one in my hands I assume Warmoth doesn't sell junk.

My apologies for leaving out more information.  I usually post on a bass forum.

I am looking for a 6 string bass bridge for my gecko.

I have seen the Takeuchi bridges, I would like to get some opinions on these.

Any other suggestions would be great.

Thank you.  Until then  :guitaristgif: :guitaristgif: :guitaristgif:

I've built three basses with the Takeuchi bridge now.  No problems here.

I've built 3 Geckos with the Takeuchi TG5W bridge (plus one more on order) as well as 5 Geckos with the Kahler 7450.

The Takeuchi bridge is a good value, and is moderately adjustable for most uses.  However, on a Gecko bass the saddles are just too tall for my needs.  I've used a Dremel to grind down the tops of the saddles to get nice low fretless action.  It took a bit of effort, but the result was satisfactory.

The only remaining issues are that the Takeuchi saddles don't stay firmly against the bridge plate without the strings at tension, and there are only two small contact points between the saddle and the bridge plate - i.e. screws to adjust the saddle height.  This doesn't exactly make it a rock-solid bridge with maximum tonal transfer to the body.  It works well, but it could be better.  However, at $70 for the chrome plated version, the price is very nice.

I really prefer the Kahler adjustable bridges.  They avoid all of the issues with the Takeuchi that I've mentioned: the saddles can be adjusted lower by default, they stay in place better, and the contact area between saddle and bridge plate is larger.  True, they cost more ($109 on eBay for a 6-string in chrome) and they take more time to set up properly and adjust, and they practically require a route on the body for a recessed bridge plate.  But in my opinion, you do get what you pay for.

I don't have any experience with Hipshot bridges, but others have said good things about them.  They can be found on eBay for around $75.

Thanks for the advice.

Is is possible that you find the Takeuchi bridge too high because you used it for a fretless?  I think that I am going to try that one.  I'll post some results when I am able to get that going.

Yeah, that's quite possible.  I did use it on a fretted neck (before I sold it) and the action was a *bit* high, but not quite as bad.

If you go with the Takeuchi bridge and want to lower the action, I will gladly offer to use my Dremel to lower the saddle points for you.

Thanks for the offer.  I'll be able to make any modifications on the bridge as necessary.

Do you use the Barts on all of your basses?  I am thinking about using those.
