Hello,
I've known about Warmoth since I was 16 in High School, but never got around to building one until late last year (about 20 years later). I loved that one so much, that I had to build another one, and take my buidling skills a little further in the process.
http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=22736&id=1804390904&l=d1dd13330f (the entire build).
Body - Strat style, swamp ash, top routed for HSH config, originally in solid red, flame maple veneer installed, dyed in purple with a black back & burst around the front, nitro finish.
Neck - reshaped maple Arrowhead neck with dyed rosewood fretboard, SS6105 frets, R2 locking nut with Gotoh style tuners, purple dyed flame maple veneer on headstock, Wizard neck profile.
Hardware - original Floyd Rose tremolo, all black screws & plates, etc from Warmoth, cheap Chinese pearloid pickguard & had from previous build, trimmed to fit around tremolo.
Pickups - DiMarzio Breed bridge, Dimarzio Virtual Solos, wired similar to an Andy Timmons AT100 Ibanez (two volumes, 1 tone).

I know it's not perfect, and I definitely learned a lot along the way, but I'm still happy with the finished product. Already thinking about the next one. ;D

I like the flame pattern, almost looks like two different pieces fused into one with all that chris-crossing.

wow, i think this has to be the first time i've ever really liked a Suhr-style headstock on a guitar. looks great! nice build

It took forever to get those two pieces of veneer bookmatched. I have some left over, but I'm not sure I'm ready to do this again (not yet anyways). ;D

It was the only decent shape I could think of. The original Arrowhead pattern didn't leave me much room to be creative. ;D

Looks cool! :D

Thanks! :D

Nice job! Looks great! I especially like what you did with the headstock.

Like you, I knew about Warmoth for many years, basically since they started selling retail, but never took advantage of them until late last year. I had a Fender Deluxe American Standard Strat that I just couldn't get next to, and for what it would have cost to make me happy, I could just as easily replace it. Rather than do that, I started looking at Warmoth again, and ended up with something I probably couldn't have any other way without paying twice or three times the price. Since people will pay absurd amounts of money for genuine Fenders, selling mine more or less financed thing. Since then, I've got 3 more. Damn things are like Lay's Potato Chips - no one can build just one <grin>

Thanks! I originally had a bid on an all maple Jackson style neck, but somebody sniped me at the last minute when I wasn't looking. The only other option was the neck you see here. It feels great, but I just couldn't deal with the Arrowhead headstock, so something HAD to be done. ;D It's still in the tweaking phase, but this one's just as good as the first one I built, if not better.

I'm already thinking about #3, but I have one of two beat up Charvels waiting on me.

Don't even clear coat it, looks fine just like that
+1!!

It may have looked cool, but that burnt urethane (or whatever it was) smelled so bad I had to do something. I'm gonna swirl it (stripped to bare wood right now). It's not the Hendrix guitar, so it's not that important to me - just another project to finish (amongst the many I already have). I have others I can do that to, and in a better fashion if I decide to.

What are your thoughts for the finish?
Please don't say black :toothy12:

Nah. Like I said earlier, I'm gonna swirl it. First thoughts were blue, green, yellow with a touch of metallic something, but that may change when I get the money for the carrageenan and paints. I don't know what this stuff they (Charvel) finished this body with is, but I don't think a nuclear blast could hurt it. In some spots it almost looked 1/8" thick.  :o It took 40-80 grit just to get it off.
