Little Wing theme (cruising through Northwest Highlands)

The idea to the song is based on video material I have made from the Northwest Highlands this year. Although it rained very lousy the whole time, this landscape has an atmospheric depth which is very appealing.

Put lots of thoughts into what the musical basis for the song could be. The answer was given to me by chance through a Jimi Hendrix documentation on TV while listening to Little wing  :icon_biggrin:

The recording picks up Little Wing as a theme where I have thrown in my own stuff. So the outcome is not a Little Wing cover.

The guitar tracks were recorded with my Marshall JVM410h (with a power attenuator) and a JDX DI-box from Radial. For the clean guitars parts I used the Clean/Green-mode. All the rest is recorded with the Crunch/Orange-mode. This mode is very versatile and works well with a Tubescreamer effect from my Fractal FX8 multiFX.
I also used the rotary effect from the FX8 in one leadpart. This effect sounds nice to me.

I recorded the guitar tracks with a moded Line6 JTV69 (Warmoth neck and Kinman/Doug Aldrich pus) and a Warmoth-built.

For the drums I used EZ Drummer 2 from Toontrack music. Pretty easy and versatile drum tool.
As always I am not 100% happy with my recording. But at a certain point it is better to finish than to continue  :icon_biggrin:

Have fun while watching:

Nice!!!

Tell me more about the synths used, ie; VST's & such.

I love the flute voice in the beginning!

Hi - great feedback thanks  :icon_thumright:

the "flute sound" is based on two Cubase Plugins which I played via a midi-keyboard:
(somewhere) left panned: Dynamic Minimoog, (somewhere) right panned: ethnic flute.

all the best - wolbai

Very nicely done! Don't change a thing. Ship it! Put wheels on it! Get it outa here and bill it!  :icon_thumright:

Hi Cagey,

I greatly appreciate your feedback; gives me back somehow the lack of confidence into this recording  :icon_thumright:

Well, it gives lie to the common perception that YouTube is a terrible medium. It's certainly no studio master, but the problem with most uploads you hear on it is that the original recording is kukka. Yours, on the other hand, is great. Not to mention the source material, which is also very good. Knowing and having heard the original tune approximately 2.3 million times by numerous artists, I was prepared to hate any treatment of it on general principles. You don't tug on Superman's cape, right? But, I was quite pleasantly surprised and I'm sure if Jimi were here today, he'd smile and shake your hand.

It is good to realize that the considerable time I have spend on mixing and mastering is perceived by the one or another listener  :icon_thumright:

Having that said: I am by far not good in mixing/recording. I just let me guide through my ears and through the passion to music.

This Little Wing "version" has received it's own flavor. It has been developed during the recording process. And there is visible distance to the original. Someone in another forum described it as the "Gilmour-version" of Little Wing which makes me smile.

Thanks again for your great kudos - you make my day  :icon_thumright:

I really enjoy your tunes.  Good work and I can tell you're having fun.  That's a leviathan of a cover to take on and I liked your spin.

Hi Frank,

I have overseen your reply, so I am a bit late to respond:

I feel greatly honored with your feedback  :icon_thumright:
