Hi All,

Sorry if this has already been asked before, however............

I have just bought the following...

Double battery box,
STC-2A Pre amp
Lingthnin Rods active P & J

I'm totally confused as the wiring diagrams that came with seem to conflict with each other or am I just being thick.

This is my first build am I don't want to get it wrong.

Few questions...

How do you wire both batteries in?
Does the bridge need to be grounded?
Is there one definitive wiring diagram?

Thanks for any help.

Sorry if this is all really obvious!

Cheers

Fern.

In an active circuit the bridge is not grounded. Are you wanting to run your system at 9v with two batteries for plenty of reserve power or are you wanting to boost the power to 18v for more headroom and articulation? That makes a big difference in wiring. If you want to keep the system at 9v all you do is connect the positives together and the negatives together and then connect those leads to the preamp and output jack like normal. That is known as a parallel connection. A series connection will give you 18v and to wire that you would connect the positive terminal of one battery to the preamp then the negative terminal connects to the positive terminal of the second battery. The second battery's negative terminal is then wired to the ring terminal of the output jack.

Thanks Pabloman, I have lots to learn!!! It all seemed like such a good idea when I was ordering it all those weeks ago... Now its all quite daunting. But I'm sure I'll get there,

Considering that your total current draw is probably something like 2mA, trying to double your battery capacity would be rather foolish. It is going to take a considerable length of time to deplete a battery. I would only worry about it once a year. That being said, the added value of headroom with an 18V setup is far more worthwhile.

Speaking of battery life and active pickups, I recently got a set of those newfangled Fishman Fluence pickups for the Velocity and find that the life expectancy of the battery is only spec'd at about 200 hours. Surprised me.
