I don't think there's a category of "light" Mahogany; that's just an adjective describing its weight. Mahogany is sorta like Ash, in that the weight can vary noticeably from piece to piece.
Of course, there are some similar looking species of woods sold as mahogany, that are not taxonomically related at all. Woods like lauan, khaya, sapele, etc., are often misidentified as mahogany.
Mahogany can vary a LOT from blank to blank... have seen some very light and porous brazilian mahogany and some very heavy and small porous brazilian mahogany... you might expect that change the tone
