Let's hear your Short Scale Bass build experiences...

Thanks everybody for your impressions and experiences with our SSB bass parts. Our plan is to feature these testimonials on our website.

Please pardon my prior over-exuberance regarding the time frame. I should know better. Rest assured there is new SSB stuff in the pipeline, and the minute it's ready you all will be the first to know.

For anyone that has not noticed, we now have SSB Tiltback short scale necks for sale in the Warmoth Showcase!! They have a modern 2x2 headstock and are available in both 30" and 32" scale.

And for anyone keeping track, my original time estimate of "think weeks, not months" ended up being accurate. We came in just 10 days short of it being "months"!  :hello2: :blob7: :cool01:

Thank you for the new options!!  :icon_thumright:
I saw the tilt back necks today!  :cool01: Very happy!
Also very happy to see the tuner holes without the two pin holes, so I can use my Hipshot tuners.
I noticed their not in the builder section yet. Will I be able to order a custom build?

You mentioned some new body options too ... can you give some hints? P bass?

The SSB Tiltback necks will eventually make it to the Builder. We are working on a complete website redesign that will begin with the SSB family of products and ripple outwards from there. Getting the Tiltback to the Builder is part of that process. The update is still a ways away, but we are working hard on it every day....as well as on many new body and neck - and SSB bass - designs.  :guitarplayer2:

Cool.
I'll wait a bit longer for a wenge on padouk tilt back for a sc G4.
And I'll wait to see what new bodies appear.

This may be too weird, but: I think a five-string short-scale bass is a great instrument - like mine! I doubt you would have much luck with a low B string, in fact they don't work so hot on a 34" scale (IMO). But the high C string is a different story. There are a LOT of playing opportunities backing up a single, singer-songwriter type. And 90% of the time you bring a guitar, so you can punch up the rhythm and play some solos. But you can pump even better with a bass, and if you can play higher melodies, too... well, it's just paying gigs and all, nothing important. I'm seeing more and more unconventional groupings of instruments, and you're ready if you're ready.

If the woods and construction quality is good, a low B can work really well on a short and medium scale. I have  32" 5 string and the low B is great! Warwick new 32" 5 string is another example of a solid B on a shorty.
But the higher C is also a valid option - perhaps more limited in sourcing string?

Any time frame on the new SS bodies shapes??  :dontknow:

Our new website design - which starts w/ the SSB section - is going to more prominently feature customer builds. We would like to encourage all you folks who have built short scale basses to post 'em up in the Warmoth Gallery.

Many of the testimonials from this thread will also be part of the new pages.
