Lace Sensor Alumitone

I have tried them. They have an interesting sound. It didn't blow me away. They definatley have a sound all thier own. It's almost like you can hear the aluminium, maybe a little "can like" in the background. They're pretty cool though.

I don't have them installed any more and am happy to wind my own these days. If you would like to try the Alumitones and not spend much, I would be happy to sell you my set.

They are like the ones shown here...

hi,

thanks for the info! I already thought they were more cool-looking than sounding. thnx :)

Tried 'em.  Didn't really impress me that much and couldn't think of an applications where I'd select them over Fralins, Rio Grande, etc...

I played them once in a music store, they didn't really seem to have an identity that I would seek after.
The concept under which they are made is interesting, but I think that's where it ends.

the sound is not really that thrilling or special, right? with what pickup you know can te alumitones can be compared?

I think Tony hit it on the head.  They didn't have any real character to them.  The best comparisson I could draw would be some of the really cheap EMG import pickups.

oh my god, thanks for this warning! I dont wanna have a sound like that, haha. if they were a bit like GFS pickups, OK. the smashing looks would definitly compensate it. but crappy sound, cool looks, HIGH price? thats a nono for me :P

They do look bangin' though.  Put them on and don't wire them up, just use a piezo pickup.  :laughing7:

they'd look cool on my strat if I was wearing a checkerboard sleeveless shirt and it was 1984.

I must be the only one who thinks they're downright ugly. They'd look good in a 60's Teisco, but that's about it.

They'd look AWESOME in one of those old old cheap dept store guitars. Trying to be futuristic or spacey or something.

Think late 80's/early 90's $35.00 EMG Select, & that may give you an idea.

Cheap pickups with an expensive name.

A little verbal pizazz and you'll dump those things in no time on ebay.  :hello2:

Something like

"Cutting edge technology that produces a tone only found during the hay day of Metal!"

I'm going to necropost this only to say... Despite being hideous... I like the sound I'm hearing in these things.

its glassy, electronic... almost keyboardishly synthetic. but not really in the way an Active is.

they're tempting.

But if someone knows a pickup that has the above characteristics... But is more versatile.

Lemme know.

q tuners :) and I don't like those eather. I had them for a short while, but I sold them, and I'm happy I did that. I like regular pickups better.
