Has anybody tried a neck from Karosa guitars? He's a neck builder on ebay. He uses alot of different woods. Looks like it might be pretty cool. Not sure though.

I heard it's hit or miss... and when it is miss it is really miss!
I think that Jewelers Man had some good luck with one... (crap what is his real name :()

I bought one, it was decent for the price - $32 - but nowhere near the quality of warmoth.

Here I am!  Yeah, I've not been around much.  Buying the jewelry store, and running it, has soaked up my time and attention...

Okay... Karosa...  After two years of use, my luck has run out on one of my guitars.  I'll be launching a new post about it in the near future, complete with pictures...  On the Goncalo Alves neck/Marblewood fingerboard neck, the truss rod failed.  Big time.  This rendered my beloved thinline unplayable.  The action has become way too high.  But the truss adjustment nut is nearly impossible to get to, and it won't move.

So...  Since I paid all of $45 for this neck, after shipping, I figure I got two years use out of it.  Order another Karosa?  No thank you.  However, this neck does have a nice shape to it.  It sounds great.  And it looks amazing.  Mind you, it took a LOT of work before it was ever playable.

So I removed the neck, took a knife and a hammer and indelicately removed the Marblewood fretboard.  It came off a lot easier than I expected.  Then I pulled out the truss rod.

Holy Poop...  This thing looks home made.  I'm surprised it ever made any adjustment at all.  So I'll be ordering a Warmoth Double expanding truss rod soon and see if I can put this neck back together.

Things to watch for... Wonky spacing on his unusual choice in nuts.  Wonky spacing on tuner holes.  Frets needing some leveling.  Fret ends poking out.  Hard to reach Truss Rod adjustment.  And a truss rod that isn't well designed (IMHO).

That said, on my Frankensteined '69 Thinline reissue, it looks amazing.  The shape of this one is great, nothing like the other one on my Warmoth.  It sounds great.  And the feel of the Goncalo Alves is great.  But its taken a lot of work.  And it might not survive the truss rod replacement.

I got 4 Karosa necks for free in a trade for parts on Craigslist. They use beautiful wood, but as far as guitar build quality goes its some of the worst i've ever seen. I'm currently trying to get one of them playable for a low end build, since i have it laying around. it had a horrible back bow to it, and only a single action truss rod in it. so at this point i've pulled the fingerboard off the neck to take a look. The truss rod in it is the so janky. they took a piece of all thread, drilled and tapped one end, and put what looks like an overgrown sparkler thats welded to the other side, and ties into the hex screw that goes into the all thread. there were shattered pices of  the sparkler type material all inside of the neck, which wouldn't adjust to start with, which is why i'm in it to start with.

If they're free, and its a pretty wood you like, and you have 4+ hours to spend redoing everything about the neck, and can get over that the truss rod cavity was hand routed without a guide, and that the fret slots at places were cut all the way into the neck wood. almost forgot, when the sanded the fret edges down they cut into the fingerboard so far its very beveled and rounded in places. Then its still a gamble, but i'd never pay money for a neck with that name on it. Also, make sure to replace the truss rod.

I have not tried any neck from Karosa guitars but I was thinking to try it. I will try it if he uses different types of wood.
