Well here's my strat that just came in today.  Hard to tell from the pics but the neck is birdseye, body is flame.  Haven't made up my mind on the paint just yet.  Got supplies to either do a stained Amber with Brown burst, or transparent red.

Forgot specs

Body:
Alder with Flame maple top
Flush mount Floyd
1 Vol push/push for coil tap
1 3 Way toggle
Wood mount pups

Neck:
Birdseye maple
6115SS
Standard thin contour
1 5/8 nut

Pickups:
Neck-PAF Joe
Bridge-Mo Joe

Amber with brown burst would be cool, but more classy... If it's supposed to raise the hell out, then red!

Looks good!

Yeah I'm leaning towards the Amber/Brown for that reason.  Plus I have chrome hardware and to me, red needs black.  I'm waiting for my Fine Line Tape to get here for the natural binding I'm wanting to do.

One thing that stinks though, is I bought all these files from StewMac for beveling, leveling, crowning, and such.  But the frets look like there already beveled.  And not 1 sharp fret end.  But at least I have them for the next one I do. :glasses9:

Hey man, at least you were prepared! Kudos for you on that.

If you're going to play with a very low action you'll probably have to level the frets a little... I just lowered the action on my Tele (a little bit too much) and now I'll have to level the frets...

yeah I like to go as low as possible but stay out of the fret buzz area.  I got the 6115SS frets and I can tell already I'll have to shim the floyd nut some.  I got everything cause I wanted to learn, and do everything myself.  I think I spent around $500 just with StewMac between files, paint, etc.  Been reading soooo many books I've got a little bit of information overload.

I really love tops like that...

I'd be thinkin' "blue" but to each his own

I came sooo close to getting the blue dye!  I already had the red, thought I could get the blue that way I could always go purple if I wanted.  I really should have waited until I had the body before I ordered.  But the bank account is dry so now I'm kinda stuck between the Amber/Brown and Red.

The flame grains on that top is real small and I thought it looked really nice also.

Looks like ya got some nice flame going on that top.  Should turn out real nice.
That's cool ya got all the tools you didn't need.  Gives ya a good reason to start your next build.
Ya just gotta do it.  You've got all these tools you've never used...
Keep us posted with pics as ya go.

Oh there will be a "next build" for sure!  But that's at least another year down the road.  The pics above really don't show too well.  Will have to take some pics of it wet on a sunny to really see it.

That Tiger eye would be sweet.  But I have no black dye.  Colors I have are Cherry Red, Vintage Amber, and Tobacco Brown.  Along with Black and Tranparent Red Nitro.  If I mixed the Brown dark enough it may give the grain a dark enough color.

The one big problem I have is experience.  I'm afraid if I tried it, I'd wind up with a traditional sunburst.  I've stained and painted in my younger days, but I also ruined a perfectly nice Gibson Victory bass(Maple body), and also a Gibson M III.  :headbang1:

I have at least 2 weeks to make my mind up, but I'm pretty much stuck with the colors I have on hand.

Maybe a brown with a sandback, then amber.

That's my first plan actually.  Brown dye, sand back, repeat the brown sandback only this time leaving just a small burst on the edges, then Amber on top.  May mix a small amount of red into the Amber.  With a faux natural binding, with back painted black.

I'm kinda partial to the Amber dye and Brown burst/fade.  :icon_thumright:

I already printed a pic of your guitar a while back for reference. Gonna try a variation of that.  Plan on adding alttile red to my amber to see if it gets me close to that tint of amber.  :icon_thumright:
