hi,
anyone order a build to exact spec of jim root guitar's before.
could have gone the way buying from fender shop.. but they dont customise in lefty.
so i guess armoth would be the best route. anyone?

the best thing to do is to research what exactly goes into making that particular guitar.  Some of the things you'll need to find out include types of wood used, neck shape, type and size of frets, hardware, tuners, pickups, etc.

Once you have that in hand, we can help determine the best parts required to make the guitar.

From the description of the Jim Root Strat on Sweetwater:
Fender Jim Root Stratocaster Solidbody Electric Guitar Features:
Body: Mahogany
Finish: Black Satin Nitrocellulose Lacquer
Neck: Maple, Modern "C" Shape
Fingerboard: Ebony
12-16" Compound Radius
Frets: 22, Jumbo
Scale length: 25.50"
Nut Width: 1.65"
Hardware: Black
Tuning Keys: Black Fender Deluxe Cast/Sealed Locking Tuning Machines
Bridge: Black 6-Saddle Strings-Through-Body Hardtail Bridge
Pickguard: 3-Ply White
Pickups: Neck: 1 EMG 60. Bridge: 1 EMG 81
Pickup Switching: 3 Way Blade
Controls: Master Volume

The one that I got these specs from is matte black, which I'm sure Warmoth does. The only real difference, and the one thing that you probably won't be able to get from Warmoth, is that particular contoured heel. I have a couple of Warmoth's contoured heels on Strats around here and it's as good or better than the Fender version.

I would also recommend going with Roasted Maple for the neck shaft and stainless steel frets. Those are both decisions you won't ever regret. Everything else you can source from Warmoth directly, or from other parts vendors on the internet, Sweetwater, AllParts, StewMac, et.al.

Looking forward to seeing it come together, and don't be afraid to ask questions. There's a ton of really good information here, and many very knowledgeable people that are willing to help.

BTW, if you're making a telecaster, you'll need to source one of these:

To the OP:

Where are you located in the world?  Maybe a local UW member can get in touch with you directly to talk about specifics.
