this guy is selling a jcm 900 head for $400 but he says it hums when you turn it up. im thinking its his guitar. if its not, then what could it be and is it worth the money?
The job itself isn't difficult if you've done it before as I do for my amps, but if you've never poked around inside the guts of a t00b amp, it's a job for a professional repair dude.
Try the amp without a guitar plugged in to see if it's his guitar.
If not, then negotiate the price down to cover the cost of a cap job. It's standard maintenance on older amps so most amp techs should be able to handle it.
