Okay, listen up, people. It's my birthday today. I'm 50. Many of you already know this. I don't expect presents or any of that crap.

But I would be grateful if you would do this:

Imagine you and I could sit down together today. You'd buy me a drink or a cup of coffee for my birthday, wouldn't you? Okay, call it $5.00 you'd be willing to drop in the name of acknowledging my failure to die yet. So you're good for that much, right?

Now comes the ask: Please go to the website for my favorite charity, Camino Maestro, and give them the five bucks.  They build housing for poor people. They provide solar powered lighting and phone charging for homeless people. They do good work. They need your help. Give them the $5 you'd spend acknowledging our friendship. They need it more than I do, and they might need it more than you do.

And to the admins - if my solicitation is out of bounds, my apologies in advance, and I understand if you need to delete this message.

Peace

Happy birthday Bagman67!

I've now donated as well. I hope you have a great birthday.

All the best,
Magnus

Welcome to the North of 50 crowd.
You should be getting your AARP subscription invitation in the mail any time if you haven't already.
Do it.
It's worth it, pays for itself after a couple of breakfasts at Denny's or IHOP.
Every little bit helps from here on out.

The biggest benefit of being an AARP member is they'll send you so much crap in the mail that if you have a fireplace, you'll be able to heat your house during the winter for free!

I don't know why they charge for membership. If they would just cut their mailiing schedule in half, they'd save enough on paper, printing and postage costs to not only provide you with what benefits they do, they'd have money left over.

After the first barrage of mail and emails, I went into my profile online and cut it way back to just a couple a month.
Much more manageable.

I didn't know you could do that. I just ignored them until they went away. Took a few years, but it worked.

But a simple call to them will renew your kindling supply for a couple more years. :icon_biggrin:

Thank you, Magnus.  I'm very grateful.  These folks really make the difference in the lives of some very poor people.  Your gift will help.

Thank you, Frank, and thanks to all who donated.  This really meant a lot to Camino Maestra.  My uncle sends his sincerest gratitude on behalf of the homeless folks he works with.
