As much as we sometimes want to, it's difficult to argue with success. If the thing plays and sounds good, call it a love story. When you work up the ambition and wherewithal to do another finish, build another fiddle. Can't lose. Even if it doesn't end up looking exactly the way you want it to, you still end up with another instrument. What could possibly be wrong with that?
I'll tell ya - finishes are tedious and time-consuming to do right, no matter what materials you use. What you learn over time is patience more than anything else, because the process really isn't rocket science. So, having something around you already like the feel and sound of is kinda crucial so you're not tempted by the lack of an instrument to rush, skip steps or save money.
