What do you guys think of them? Is there a reason why Warmoth does not offer this option?

Probably the same reason most makers don't offer them.
Not a big demand at the price they would demand.

Good chance of tear-out during the routing process.  Just use wood binding if you want that look.

Yep. I was watching that video and looking at how thin that lip around the edge was, and all I could think was what I nightmare that would be.

Remember when EBMM used to recess their heel plates? I thought it was the coolest thing ever! They stopped going it ten or twelve years ago, and I'm betting it's for this same reason: they were losing too many bodies to tear-out.

You could get that effect by laminating the top, then putting body-height wood binding all around the perimeter.

For me, I did not particularly like how the finished idea looked. Of course, that does not mean others might like it but it does not seem too practical as a solution.

Hang on - if memory servers, there is a custom guitar builder that inlays neck plates and pickguards.  He's one of the good ones - Bill Crook?  Chihoe Hahn? Ron Kirn?  One of those guys.

Still makes me really nervous!

As a builder, I would not even risk it unless the revealed edge were at least 1/4" thick, & even that my not be impervious to tear out.

Clear masked binding is your next best option in my opinion.

Ron Kirn's your guy.  His work is all over TDPRI.  As is his loopy wit.

Oh....so that's what that is called.

:laughing7:...he does have a certain way with words and so on. I can't say I agree with all of his views.

Yeah, RK's a character.  I don't agree with all he has to say either.  But he's an accomplished craftsman and he shares the how-to's pretty generously.
